When I first stepped into this home office, it felt underutilized and disconnected from the rest of the home. Outdated corner built-ins and heavy shutters weighed down the space and limited its potential. My client’s vision was to create a refined, highly functional workspace that could support focused work, present beautifully on camera, and comfortably accommodate everyday moments, from quiet concentration to casual conversations.
The first step was to rethink the layout and establish a clear focal point. I designed a custom built-in to anchor the desk wall, integrating storage with a composed backdrop for video calls. Carefully selected artwork was layered into the design to create depth and visual interest. This feature brings structure to the room while seamlessly balancing organization with a refined aesthetic.
Technology integration was approached with the same level of intention. Floor outlets were introduced, and the desk was designed with concealed cord channels to eliminate visual clutter. Every element was carefully considered so that cables remain completely hidden within the millwork and beneath the rug. The result is a workspace that feels clean, composed, and visually uninterrupted.
From there, we layered in materials and finishes to bring depth and warmth to the space. A refined neutral palette, enriched with deeper tones, establishes a calm and grounded atmosphere. Floor-to-ceiling drapery softens natural light and introduces a sense of quiet luxury. Existing artwork was thoughtfully integrated with new pieces to create a cohesive and personal composition.
Lighting was carefully reconsidered to enhance both comfort and functionality. The original chandelier was replaced with a sculptural fixture that casts light upward, creating a softer and more balanced ambiance. Additional recessed lighting was introduced to provide flexibility, allowing the space to adapt seamlessly from focused work to a more relaxed setting.
Comfort was an essential component of the design. A custom-sized 100% wool rug anchors the space, while two guest chairs create an inviting seating area opposite the desk. A refined bar console completes the composition, allowing the room to function beyond work. The office becomes a space for conversation, quiet moments, and everyday living, while maintaining a polished and composed appearance.
This transformation illustrates how a thoughtfully designed home office can extend far beyond its function. It reflects the client’s lifestyle, supports productivity, and creates an environment where work and daily life feel seamlessly integrated, refined, and elevated.
